Upon receipt of your application, you will be invited to attend our next round of Aptitude Workshops. These practical, pathway-specific sessions are designed to assess your suitability for your chosen course, whilst also providing the opportunity to find out more about what the course involves.
Workshops are typically 3–4 hours long and are scheduled to take place throughout the year, with places offered following each round. Therefore, applicants are encouraged to apply early, to avoid disappointment.

Our aptitude workshops
The workshops are designed to offer applicants the opportunity to demonstrate potential in their chosen pathway. No prior experience is required, and the assessed activities are not academic or merit-based.
Members of staff are trained to ensure all workshops assess aptitude, which is an individual’s ability to learn and develop proficiency, rather than testing ability.
You will also take part in a group discussion, which will be a chance for you to ask questions, discuss your inspirations and aspirations, and clarify options. The discussion will not form part of the aptitude evaluation and you will not be scored on it.
FAQs
How many places are available?
The academy will offer a maximum of 200 places to Year 12 students each September.
What are your entry requirements?
Whilst we are a 100% selective academy, we do not ask for any specific academic grades in order to enrol onto our BTEC Level 3 Pathways. We believe that your passion and potential to learn are much more significant factors in industry success and therefore, we prefer to assess these attributes via our Aptitude Workshop process.
For any applicants wishing to sit an additional A-Level qualification alongside their BTEC Pathway, we will require a strong academic portfolio (typically 5 x GCSE Grades 6 or above), as this is necessary to demonstrate that you would be able to manage the additional academic workload required.
Students who have not already achieved GCSE Grade 4 or above in English or Maths, will be able to re-sit these at BOA, as part of the government's commitment to improving literacy and numeracy.
Are there tuition fees?
No. BOA Stage & Screen Production is a state-funded academy and therefore there are no fees for tuition.
Can I provide supporting information such as portfolios or videos in my application?
No. Please do not include such items with your application. To ensure fairness to all applicants, these will not be used as part of the application process nor the aptitude workshop process.
How will offers be announced?
All students who attended the aptitude workshops will receive an email advising whether they have been successful or not. This will typically be sent out within 2-3 days of attendance at an Aptitude Workshop.
What happens if I have not been successful?
There will be a right of appeal to an Independent Appeals Panel for unsuccessful applicants. The letter you receive will detail what to do if you wish to appeal.
